Maureen* spent many years working in the hospitality industry and has owned many of her own cafes throughout Melbourne. Maureen has always loved eating out, although since losing her license hasn’t been able to get out as much. Maureen describes herself as quick witted and a bit of joker! Maureen would love to connect with an outgoing volunteer with a good sense of humour to spend time sampling the menus of new restaurants and cafes. Our Social Connections Program supports people aged over 65 to get back to the things they love and reconnect with their community through Volunteer Engagement.

Our Social Connection Program is led by Volunteers, who provide meaningful support through a range of activities including:

• Local group outings
• Special interest groups
• One on one visits
• Phone-based connections
• Centre-based activities
• Community Transport (Grampians)

Whether it’s enjoying a conversation over a cup of coffee at someone’s home, learning a new hobby together or getting out and about in the community to do something fun, we have an opportunity for everyone. Our volunteers have such a positive impact on the people they connect with and their local communities.

We are seeking volunteers to visit older people in your local area who would benefit from regular contact, conversation and social outings! Brenda has always enjoyed the atmosphere and experience of visiting a café. Brenda worked as a barista for many years and has a great appreciation for all things caffeine! Following the pandemic,Brenda, like many, has struggled to leave her home and be in public places and crowds. Brendan would love to be connected with a coffee loving volunteer to accompany him on outings to local cafes to improve his confidence to get out and about again.

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community?

This dynamic role will allow you to improve the social connections within your local community whilst getting to know new and interesting people with lots of life experience to share!

The role will involve providing short term social engagement to customers living in an area whilst they wait for a longer term volunteer connection. Each visit may entail checking in on 3-5 customers for a quick chat and catch up.

The successful applicant will have the availability and openness to visit and connect with multiple customers across the course of the week/fortnight. Time management will be essential to ensure that regular contact with customers is provided.
Access to a car is highly desirable. Opportunities for fuel reimbursement available.

Our customers often need support in using their smartphones, laptops and tablets. Being able to connect online is an important part of remaining connected to our community, and we need your help to get them online! Women and Mentoring’s (WAM) Young Women’s Program assists cisgender and transgender young women and non-binary folk aged 12–24, who are identified as at risk or in the early stages of contact with the criminal justice system. The program acts as both a preventative and early intervention approach for marginalised young women and gender-diverse young people living in the Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong, Kingston and Casey communities. Participants are matched with an individual supportive volunteer mentor, and all WAM mentors are trained and resourced to provide appropriate support tailored to each participant’s needs.

The program aims to support women at their own pace by providing a trusted mentoring relationship with a screened and trained community volunteer who also identifies as a woman. This relationship encourages self-determination and self-advocacy to assist participants to address any underlying issues and meet their social and wellbeing goals.

Position Summary
As a WAM Volunteer Mentor, you have the opportunity to become one consistent, trusted person in a young woman’s life. Through encouragement, practical support and genuine connection, mentors help young women build confidence, navigate challenges and move towards the future they want for themselves.

Commitment
Volunteer mentors generally commit to:
-Around 2-3 hours per week
-Regular contact with one participant
-Monthly peer supervision (at least 75% attendance per annum)
-Ongoing contact with their Program Coordinator
-A minimum commitment of 12 months.

Limitations of Mentoring Role
WAM Mentors are not expected to be counsellors, lawyers, case managers or crisis workers. Their role is to Iisten, encourage, build confidence and help participants connect with appropriate professional services when needed.

Commitment to Child Safety
WAM has zero tolerance for child abuse and actively works to prevent harm to young people. All mentors must adhere to the Child Safety Code of Conduct.

Key Selection Criteria
ESSENTIAL
Successful applicants will identify as women or non-binary and will have:
-The ability to demonstrate effective active listening skills and exercise self-awareness.
-An alignment to WAM values (integrity, empowerment, respect, belonging, social justice).
-Weekly availability (2-3 hours) to meet face-to-face during the day and receive phone calls.
-The ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences without judgement.
-Demonstrated empathy, reliability, resilience and the ability to maintain professional boundaries.
-The capacity to be available and commit to the program for at least twelve months for a mentor match. Training and screening time is in addition to the twelve months.

DESIRABLE
-Some existing knowledge of local community services and/or the criminal justice system would be a great advantage.
-Lived experience of the criminal justice system or challenges faced by people who may access this program would also be welcome.
-We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people of varying abilities and non-binary people.
-Drivers Licence Preferred

Our program helps participants gain confidence, independence, and access to employment and education while promoting safer roads and stronger communities.

Volunteer Mentor Drivers support learner drivers as they gain supervised driving experience. The role focuses on encouragement, supervision, and confidence-building rather than formal driving instruction.Mentors provide a calm and supportive environment to help learners build their driving hours and progress toward their probationary licence.

Key Responsibilities
Supervise learner drivers during scheduled driving sessions
Provide encouragement and support in a calm and respectful environment
Model safe and responsible driving behaviour
Follow all road rules and program safety guidelines
Communicate with Donate 2 Drive staff regarding scheduling or concerns

What This Role Is Not
No formal teaching or test preparation required
No transport of learners outside scheduled sessions
